Stanray® Underfloor Wheel Truing Machine in use
The Stanray® TN-84C underfloor wheel truing machine from our subsidiary NSH USA is being used in the new Lifecycle Overhaul and Upgrade (LOU) Facility.
The new service hall with an area of 3,065 m² is technologically state-of-the-art. In addition to an overhead crane (two lifting points with five and 30 t lifting capacity), the facility also houses two tracks for up to four railcars or locomotives. Our Stanray® TN-84C underfloor wheel turing machines are also available to maintain VRE's entire fleet of vehicles.
The $52.7 million rail facility was built with more than $39 million in stimulus funds, $11.7 million from the Commonwealth of Virginia and $1.7 million from Virginia Railway Express.
The "Virginia Passenger Rail Authority" and the "Department of Rail and Public Transportation" acted as partners in this project. The new service facility thus supports the $4 billion "Transforming Rail in Virginia" initiative to expand the rail network. The goal is to increase the reliability and service of rail transportation in Virginia.
The Stanray® Underfloor Wheel Turing Machine (TN-84C) is an underfloor pit milling machine. It is capable of reprofiling both wheels of a railroad wheelset simultaneously, with the axle centers serving as the machining reference point. Both wheels of a wheelset are automatically machined to the diameter required for cleaning. As little material as necessary is removed in the process.
The advantages:
- Significant material and cost savings
- Increased service life of the wheelset
- Minimal material removal
- Shortened dwell time
We are proud to support VRE in the sustainable and economical use of rail vehicles!
